Today marked the second day of the Gelbvieh and Balancer Show as the bull and heifer pen shows took place in Stockyard Arena. So, what exactly is a pen show?
If you’ve never had the chance to watch a pen show, it can be quite confusing! Depending on the category, each exhibitor can bring anywhere from three to five cattle in the ring at the same time to compete against other groups of cattle. The judge then selects a class winning pen, and eventually a champion, based on uniformity, structural correctness, and Expected Progeny Differences (EPDs).
Want a different perspective? You can still catch the National Gelbvieh and Balancer Show in Stadium Arena tomorrow morning at 8 a.m.
In addition to the Gelbvieh and Balancer Pen Shows, the Red Angus also held their annual Pen Show in the Livestock Center. The judge sorted through more than 20 pens of cattle before noon. Be sure to get to Stadium Arena bright and early tomorrow morning at 8 a.m. to watch the Red Angus Open Show alongside the Gelbvieh and Balancer Show.
