The red and blacks of cattle strode into the ring at the National Western Stock Show prepared to wow the judge and impress the stands. This was the Junior South Devon Show & National South Devon Show on the Hill.
This breed is a smaller, stocky breed originating from England, within the counties of Devon and Cornwall. What truly is special about the breed is the original belief that they were considered to be triple purpose, with more specialized characteristics than other breeds.
The triple use thoughts come from the idea of these cattle being prominent, not just in beef, not just in milk production, but also in butterfat content, according to the North American South Devon Association. This multi-purpose approach makes it a great cattle choice for small producers, to maximize their investment.
