Royalty is typically pictured in large gowns or compared to the Queen of England, not pictured with boots and jeans, and a buckle and crown as her measure of regality. However, here at the National Western Stock Show, the Red Angus Open Show is graced by the presence of just this type of royalty, the North American Jr. Red Angus Event (NAJRAE) Queen.
Callie Hicks, from Midway, Kentucky is the 2019-2020 NAJRAE Queen. She began in the breed when her family purchased a Red Angus heifer and she fell in love from there. All of this spurring her rise to royalty.
“As Red Angus Queen here at the National Western Stock Show, my goal is to promote Red Angus and the Red Angus breed, and promote our junior events as well,” said Hicks.
This breed is lucky to have juniors and youth so willing to be involved and promote the breed, including taking time out of their student schedules to attend shows like this, both as exhibitors and, like Hicks, helping ringside.
