The Grand Champion Junior Market Steer Drive at the National Western Stock Show recognized more than the winning steers on January 22 in Stadium Arena. The final drive also honored the memory of a young champion cattleman, Nick Reimann.
Reimann, along with Logan Rau, Brent Beitelspacher and their pilot D.J. Fischer died in a tragic plane accident returning home from a weekend trip in Texas in late April of 2014. Their trip consisted of something the South Dakota cattlemen loved – attending cattle sales and shopping for the next additions to their herds.
In remembrance, the NWSS awarded Grand Champion Market Steer exhibitor, Shilo Schaake of Westmoreland, Kansas the bronze traveling trophy dedicated to life and service of Reimann to the cattle industry. Nick's wife, Kyrstin, and their family attended the champion drive to present the traveling trophy in his memory.
