Hereford cattle have been a part of the National Western Stock Show since the very beginning. Given the breeds history, it comes as no surprise that many farms have been exhibiting cattle here for decades. Creating a tradition here in Denver with their own flair, Hereford enthusiasts gathered in the Livestock Center Auction Arena for the National Hereford Pen and Carload Show.
Judges Bill Goehring of Libertyville, Iowa, Paul Bennett of Redhouse, Virginia, and Ronny Morgan of Burwell, Nebraska, evaluated nearly 70 groups of cattle to name their champions.
The Grand Champion Pen of Heifers was Pen 116 including heifers C CANDY CANE 4030, C KLC R 98 MISS MILES 4100 and C SNICKERS owned by Guy Colyer of Colyer Herefords, Inc., Bruneau, Idaho. Rolland Baumgarten of Baumgarten Cattle Co., Belfield, North Dakota, owned the Reserve Champion Pen of Heifers, Pen 105.
Carload 207 owned by Delaney Herefords Inc., of Lake Benton, Minnesota, was named Grand Champion Carload of Bulls. Reserve Champion Carload of Bulls went to Jason Hoffman of Hoffman Ranch, Thedford, Nebraska, with Carload 206.
The final pairing of champions made were the Pen of Three Bulls. Coyote Ridge Ranch of LaSalle, Colorado, owned the Grand Champion Pen of Three Bulls, Pen 313. Pen 300, owned by Fawcett's Elm Creek Ranch of Ree Heights, South Dakota, was named Reserve Grand Champion Pen of Three Bulls.
