Eleanor Borba, a 15-years-old from Atascadero, California, is no stranger to the road. To date, she has traveled upwards of 1,100 miles and spent 17 hours in the car to get to the 2015 National Western Stock Show. Borba's deemed her trip worthwhile when she was named the Grand Champion Intermediate Swine Showman.
Borba has been showing pigs for eight years now, with this being her second year at the National Western. Her favorite part of showing is the moment right when the pen gate opens, and she makes her drive right in front of the judge.
When she was younger, Borba would tag along and watch her older brother show. This is what started her love for showing. There were a few years where they competed against each other, and when asked if she ever beat her brother, a huge grin covered her face as she said, "A couple times!"
Borba has some advice for other showman: "Stay calm. The mentality you have, is the same one the pig is going to have. And you have to treat every pig like it's going to be a champion. Never let one be better than the other."
We wish Borba and other exhibitors success in the 2015 Junior Market Swine Show!
