There is no question that livestock shows bring families closer together. While you might only think of exhibitors and friends sticking together, think again. Judges and brothers Dave and Mark Allan are prime examples of keeping livestock shows in the family.
They grew up on a cow-calf operation raising Hereford cattle near Seward, Nebraska. Together, they have been in the cattle industry for more than 35 years.
David received his undergrad from Texas A&M and furthered his education with grad school at Michigan State. Now, he owns Genesource, a semen distribution company and Bar A Cattle Co., a cow-calf operation. Mark received his Master of Science and Doctorate of Philosophy in Animal Genetics from the University of Nebraska. He is currently the Director of Marketing and Genomics for Trans Ova Genetics in Sioux Center, Iowa. He oversees marketing, genomic and new product development activities.
They may live and work in different states, but the occasional livestock shows like the National Western bring them together.
