This breed of cattle dates back to the Bronze Age. Often associated with the Swiss Alps and originally associated with the Brown Swiss that are used for dairy production, this docile breed stepped into the Stock Yards Arena at the 2020 National Western Stock Show prepared to impress the judge. This breed is the Braunvieh.
Braunvieh is originally a German word, literally translating to “brown cow.” Their stocky, and durable nature, as well as the fine, wire-like hair makes them an acceptable beef breed, especially within arid temperatures, according to the Braunvieh Association of America. This balance breed has the appealing face and large brown eyes that often pull at the public, making them often the breed that people will attempt to pet and play with.
Here at the National Western Stock Show, this breed has been honed to perfection, prepared to make a name for themselves within the other popular, mainstream breeds.
