Saying the word boar, automatically conjures up images of large wild pigs, often with tusks running wild. However, this boer resembles a goat.
Market goats used for meat throughout the United States and the globe, are often of the Boer Goat breed. Much of the goats that marched into the ring of the National Western Stock Show to compete in the Junior Market Goat Showmanship were of this breed.
These junior showmen, ages 9-18, all come into the ring with these market goats, often Boer Goats, that they have worked with, preparing them for this very moment. Judged on their own showmanship capabilities, as well as those of these market goats they are working with, the end goal is to be the champion showman.
The coveted trophy of champion showman is one all juniors vie over and work hard towards year-round.
